Grapevine
This beer is from a Scottish brewery that is close to my heart, Fallen Brewing. Take a look at “Just The Ticket”, the brew that began Dr Beer’s relationship with this brewery.
Mandatory “Grapevine” Facts

- ABV: 5.4%
- IBU: 43
- Style: Pale Ale
- Serving: Can, 330 ml
I love Fallen Brewing’s can design: I think the primary two-tone look really pops against competing beer cans and I like how the little green hop symbol sits proudly above the name. There’s a “no nonsense” appeal within the design too – with minimal, only essential wording present. It poured a hazy orange colour, with a thick, bubbly off-white foam head, that lasted until the very last sip. Upon opening the can, the foam started to rise from the small gap in the aluminium, so I had to quickly grab a glass to prevent making a mess and wasting good beer! It smelled incredibly good, with mixed citrus aromas, though primarily lime. The beer was silky smooth and rounded off with a subtle bitter edge.
It is suggested to pair this beer with spicy food – I had it by itself this evening, but I imagine that it would complement a curry exceptionally well!
Diagnosis: 3.25/5. “Grapevine” isn’t anything outstanding, but it certainly gave me a little smile upon sampling, as it reminded me of all the Fallen Brewing beers I’ve enjoyed in the past… It also gave me a good excuse to check out their website to think about which one of their brews I’ll sample next!
