A New England style IPA, by Neon Raptor Brewing Co. I’ve previously sampled “New Construction Options” by this brewery, based in Nottingham.
Mandatory “Ghost Twins” Facts
- Untappd Rating: 3.99 (at time of writing)
- ABV: 6.8%
- Style: NEIPA
- Serving: Can, 440ml
Neon Raptor cans always stand out on the shelf in any beer store: their bright colours and a neon blue and pink logo always shine bright in comparison to other brews. A deep, hazy orange-tan colour was poured with a moderately large bright white foam head, which settled over the following few minutes, leaving a touch of lacing on the glass. The 440ml volume upset me – I wanted the full pint! Aromas were wonderful: very reminiscent of a typical NEIPA, with mango, tropical and juicy citrus scents whetting my appetite, building the anticipation for a wonderful beer. On a deeper inhale, I noticed the subtler herbaceous and floral notes.
When sampling, the tasting profile appeared to be turned on its head, with the light floral properties being more dominant flavours than the fruity elements. There was a light juicy sensation in the background. A bold bitterness rounded the beer off and in spite of its 6.8% ABV label, the taste of alcohol remained incredibly understated.
Diagnosis: 3.5/5. “Ghost Twins” is light-bodied and a bit thinner in texture compared to other NEIPAs I’ve sampled. I wouldn’t rate this just as high as the Untappd average. I’d prefer less of a floral dominance in exchange for more juiciness please, i.e. a greater reflection of the scent!
