There is a festive tradition that my fiancée and I have: we exchange a small gift on each day of the advent period. On the 6th December, I received this little beauty: “Fresa”. It is a beer collaborated by Thornbridge and Fourpure breweries, both of which I have previously enjoyed brews from. Described as a ‘Strawberry Milkshake IPA’, it sounds very appealing…
Mandatory “Fresa” Facts
- Untappd Rating: 3.68 (at time of writing)
- ABV: 4.8%
- Style: Milkshake IPA
- Serving: Bottle, 330ml
A strawberry-pink labelled bottle produced a hazy, pale beer. There was a small white foam head, which settled quickly at the side of the tulip glass. The scents from the beer truly represented the name: strawberries galore. The tasting sensation was stunning. The first texture on the tongue was a moderate-to-high level of carbonation against the sharp, cool liquid. This then faded into a mixture of savoury bread and sweet strawberry.
Flavours rapidly intensified, with a sugary vanilla current running through, which was topped-off with a zingy strawberry finish. In spite of the complexity and milkshake-sweetness, it still inherently tasted like a beer!
Diagnosis:5.0/5. “Fresa” represents perfection in a bottle. The flavour profile flawlessly represents the name and has a stunning complex taste. It keeps the essence of a beer, despite packaging in milkshake characteristics. I’m a bit in shock at giving my first ever 5/5 feedback, but this deserves it! I will no doubt be returning to this brew time and time again whenever I crave a sweet, juicy, luxurious beer. It is rare to find a “perfect” beer… I should know – I’ve been trying really hard for the last 18 months and this is my first one!
