Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie

This was one of many beers given to me by my fiancée in my stocking this Christmas: becoming Dr Beer has made me very easy to buy for! Identifying something that looks awesome followed by quickly checking Untappd (to see if I’ve previously sampled it) made Christmas shopping easier for her this year. I think she’s done well – great sounding flavours (a dessert in a can!) produced by an incredible brewery – Evil Twin. For previous Evil Twin reviews check out Old Fashioned Lemonade IPA and Tropical Super Itchy

Mandatory “Key Lime Pie” Facts

  • Untappd Rating: 3.70 (at time of writing)
  • ABV: 7.0%
  • Style: IPA
  • Serving: Can, 440ml

A bright green label wrapped around this can. With a tagline stating that crackers and key limes were added during the process of brewing, there was no excuse for the flavour to not come through! It poured a hazy light-orange colour and lacked a thick foam head, as the initial thin layer of bubbles dissipated quickly. Aromas were punchy, with lime at the forefront and a little alcohol warmth on the nose too. On sampling, I immediately noticed the smoothness and lack of carbonation. It was juicy, sweet, sour and boozy all at the same time! The key lime flavour was great, bringing a beautiful zing. In the background there was a faint biscuit tone, but this was very subtle and only noticeable after longer, repeated sampling. The beer finished with a cleansing citrus note: refreshing, soothing and tasty!

Diagnosis: 3.75/5. “Key Lime Pie” is a great beer that turned out to be a wonderful stocking filler! Gift me a new beer any time over a forgettable novelty gift! For this beer to be lifted to the next level, I would need a bigger biscuit presence.
